STEFFAN James was Westleigh’s man of the moment in an eight-wicket win over Newton Tracey in Division One of the North Devon League.

James took four for 28 in his eight-over spell as Newton Tracey were reduced to 106 for seven. Newton Tracey moved up a gear – literally –  as Simon (32) and Rob (60no) Gear compiled a stand of 71.

Rob Gear was still there at the end in a seemingly competitive 225 in 38 overs rain-reduced overs.

Westleigh’s James Starkey was an early scalp for Newton Tracey. That brought James to the crease, allowing him and Selwyn Fisher to put together a partnership of 206.  James was eventually dismissed for 84 with Fisher unbeaten on 99 when Westleigh reached their total.

Heathcoat’s game at home to Hatherleigh was abandoned after two overs.

Victoria Park defeated visiting Nomansland by eight wickets on one of two games played in Division Two.

Nomansland limped to an all-out score of 102. Dave Branch (4-9) and Ian Brown (3-18) did the damage with the ball.

The visitors claimed a couple of early wickets, but that was as good as it got as Steve Oliver (67no), and Will Anderson (36no) saw Park home.

Filleigh coasted to a 114-run win over visiting Exford in the other match played in Division Two.

Alex Wilson-North made 67 and Richar Coates 26 to get Filleigh up and running then Louis Roberts added 34 towards a final tally of 197 for five. John Clegg (2-15) was Exford’s leading wicket taker.

Exford crumbled to 83 all out against testing bowling from Roberts (4-30), Archie Shawcross (3-10) and Joe Floyd (2-19). Ian Whybrow’s 30 was the lone batting highlight for Exford.

Herschelle Poggenpoel was the star with bat and ball in Holsworrthy’s 79-run win at Braunton.

Poggenpoel guided his side to a 40 over score of 226 for five by scoring 96 not out. He got valuable support from Jack Greening, who weighed in with 64 not out.

Poggenpoel then took over with the ball, taking five for 19. as Braunton were dismissed for 147.
