THERE were tons of runs at Westward Ho! where Bideford defeated Westleigh by 15 runs in Division One of the North Devon League.
Bideford, who were inserted, racked-up 303 for six, principally down to Ewan Williams (109) and Julian Hayter (71no). Jack Ford chipped in with 40. James Starkey took a couple of wickets for Westleigh..
Led by an unbeaten 136 for opener Steffan James, Westleigh gave it a go. There was support from Starkey (39) and Peter Bowes (43), but ultimately they ran out of overs with the score on 288 for five.
Alex Hannam took a couple of Westleigh wickets, although brother Oliver's eight overs for 23 runs was significant.
At Hatherleigh there was an awesome display of hitting by North Devon's Jay Rothery as the visitors amassed 388 for six. His 99 came off 40 balls and contained seven sixes, and 12 fours. Shantanu Mishra scored a more sedate 163 off 119 balls.
Jonty Rapaluna was the only Hatherleigh bowler to take more than one wicket.
Rapaluna led the Hatherleigh chase with 91 with support from Harry Arden (56). Charlie Arthur took three for 49 for North Devon as the hosts closed on 299 for nine and lost by 89 runs.
Newton Tracey were all geared up to continue their early season form. but came up against a potent Belstone attack.
Newton were bundled out for 119 in 25 overs. Kieran Soper top scored with 20. Harry Bushin (4-42) led the Belstone attack and there were three wickets each for Achilles Brown and Craig Penberthy.
Belstone knocked-off the runs seven wickets down in 20 overs. Leon Horn (41) top scored. Simon Gear took three for six for Newton.
Ten-man Exford entertained Victoria Park in Division Two and were all out for 184. Jonah Hopkins (70) and Jakob Schrader (42) were the leading scores. Harry Rainford, Rob Guppy,and George Shapland all took two wickets.
Ian Brown’s 63 led Viccy Park to a three-wicket win.
There were comfortable home wins for Holsworthy and Barnstaple & Pilton in Division Three.
Braunton went to Holsworthy and scored 134 all out. Kim Evers top scored with 41. Adam Lovejoy took three for 11 for the hosts .
Holsworthy knocked off the runs in 15 overs for the loss of three wickets. Alfie Sealey led the charge with an unbeaten 60.
Newton Tracey 2nd XI went to Barnstaple & Pilton and should be commended for getting two teams out. Newton scored 149 all out, led by Julian Moore's 48. Ruben Chugg and Giles Bashford both took a couple of wickets for B&P.
B&P knocked the runs off without loss in 12 overs, thanks entirely to Matt Newton (70) and James Roe (65).
