SAM Russell hit an unbeaten half-century to steer Bovey Tracey 3^rd XI to an eight-wicket win over South Devon and into the second round of the Valeport-sponsored Brockman Cup.

South Devon were held to 120 for seven in the T20-format competition with Jonty Tupman top-scoring on 29 not out. Harry Senior made 21 against his former club. 

Bovey’s bowlers largely made life tough for South Devon, particularly Harry Pitman, whose one for 13 included that T20 rarity a maiden over, and Jack Ansley had three wickets for 21 runs.

Bovey bowler Jake Forey suffered at the end of the South Devon innings when he was taken for 23 from a seven-ball over, mostly scored by Dillip Salinda (20no).

Ryan Jones (20) and Harry Mount (18) negotiated tight opening spells from Sean Andrews (1-17) and Salinda (1-21) to post 32 for the first wicket. When Mount was second out on 52 Ollie Curran joined Russell in the middle and then pair took Bovey the rest of the way

Russell hit two fours and four sixes on the way to 53 not out from 36 balls faced. Curran was 23 not out when Bovey passed the post two balls into the final over.
