HEATHCOAT and Hatherleigh used their Division One game in the North Devon League to give game time to their overseas players.
Kumar Kushagra hit 110 off 54 balls before retiring with Heathcoat well on the way to their total of 277 for eight. Kagiso Rapaluna replied with 109 off 52 balls – he also retired –as Hatherleigh lost by 87 runs.
Whether actions like this by clubs with teams in the Tolchards DCL is good for the North Devon League and its image may be a matter for clubs to discuss in future.
Belstone batted first in a reversed fixture at Westleigh, where they amassed 161 all out. James Ewen top scored with 46, and got help from Richard Drake (30) and Phil Dennis (28no).
Dick Pearson (4-37) did the damage with the ball and Steffan James weighed in with a couple.
James opened the reply, and top scored with 55 and had support from Andrew Loosemore (37) and James Morris (17) as Westleigh won at a canter five wickets
Newton Tracey were all geared-up for their game at North Devon, and came upon a depleted opposition as their hosts had to send as Twenty20 side to Exmouth.
Newton batted first and racked-up a total of 226 for six, which was built around 74 from Martin Gear and 64 from Rob Gear.
North Devon gave it a go in reply, but ultimately fell 27 runs short. Things looked dodgy at 35 for three, however, Jimmer Thomas, and Phil Pennington led the fight back with a partnership worth 104.Thomas scored 102 off 84 balls and Pennington 37. Simon Gear took three for 14.
Two clubs celebrating their centenaries this season – Filleigh and Ilfracombe – met in Division Two.
Ilfracombe were all out for 229 inside 30 overs having won the toss and opted to bat.
Sam Chowdhury top scored with 68 and got help from Bashir Ahmed (45) and Tariq Khan (37).
Rupert Janisch took four for 43 and Louis Roberts took three for 31.
Roberts (31) and Hickman (23) top scored in Filleigh’s reply. However, their efforts were in vain as the hosts were all out for 105.
There were a couple of wickets each for Hazrat Sherzad, and Bashir Ahmed, plus three run outs
Elsewhere Nomansland’s game against Lynton fell foul to the weather.
Exford conceded their cup game at Braunton.
