WESTLEIGH defeated Victoria Park by three wickets in the Blights League Cup.

The Pool B game was one of only two cup matches to survive the bad weather that washed out the league programme.

Victoria Park, who were invited to bat first by Westleigh captain Will Speed, were all out for 104.

Mark Lee top scored with 26 for the Park (extras added another 27) and there was support from Jolyon Malin (17no). No one could cope with the bowling of Steffan James (5-12) or Speed (3-33).

Westleigh’s reply was dominated by a remarkable innings from opener Selwyn Fisher. His 83 not out from 68 balls contained 11 fours and a six. It was the hosts’ only double-figure score.

Rob Guppy's three for for 20 was in vain as Westleigh won inside 30 overs.

Ten-man Exford lost a low-scoring encounter in Pool V with Ilfracombe by just one wicket.

The Moorlanders started brightly with skipper Ian Whybrow (36) leading from the front in a 63-run opening partnership.

Once Whybrow became a victim of Bashir Ahmed (3-22) things went downhill as Exford were dismissed for 114. Hazrat Sherzad’s four for eight in 16 balls was the icing on the cake for 'Combe

Joshua Smith with five for 23 was the pick of their bowlers as Exford made Ilfracombe fight for every run.

Combe skipper Chris Ayres (39) emulated his opposing captain by leading from the front. Wickets fell regularly as the hosts were reduced to 85 for seven. Tariq Khan (19) and Abdul Jameel (16) then shared a stand of 29, that took the scores to level pegging before both were dismissed.

Last man Shahmuhammad Ahmed scored the winning run.

A reminder has gone out to clubs across North Devon to check their security after Exford were hit by burglars.

The club’s store was broken into and ground equipment stolen.
