Devon Women's Cricket League join the Devon Cricket Board for finals day and a chance for celebration

This season the Devon Women's Cricket League joined with the Devon Cricket League to celebrate all the playing achievements in the league for the 2022 season. The celebration event was held at Exmouth Cricket Club and was part of the Devon Cricket Girl's League Finals Day. All clubs involved in the women and girl's game were invited to take part in the celebration event, which was the perfect way to end a very successful season. 

Hannah Clark, the Chairperson of the Devon Women's League expressed how pleased she was with the success of the league this year and that more women's cricket has been played than ever before. She was joined by Kirsty Hambley (Secretary), Susannah Maxa (Treasurer) and Jan Witheridge (Disciplinary Officer) to give out the trophies and awards for the season. 

 

DEVON WOMEN'S SOFTBALL LEAGUE 

The celebration started with the Devon Women's Softball League, which is the biggest area of growth in the county this year.

DEVON WOMEN'S HARDBALL LEAGUE 

Before awarding the Division Trophies, the Women's League congratulated players on their individual achievements on the field. 

Batter of the Year: Gemma Lancaster (Cornwood CC)

Gemma scored 369 runs across 5 innings. Her highest score was 103* with an average of 369

Bowler of the Season: Lydia Harris (Ipplepen CC) 

 

Lydia tooks 16 wickets across the season in Division 2 with an economy rate of 2.66

Her best bowling figures were 6 for 5

Spirit of Cricket: Ruby Davies (North Devon CC)

This award is given to a player in the league who is under 18 and is voted for by the clubs. Ruby was awarded this for her excellent sportmanship and performance on the field of play. 

Eloise Maxa: Player's Player 

This award is voted for by the clubs who the team played against. Eloise received this for her welcoming attitude to teams and perfomance on the pitch. 

 


It then fell to Hannah to award the divison winners and League Champions

Following on from the League trophy presentations, we were joined by Neil Gamble and Nigel Mountford from the Devon County Cricket Club. Wanting to bring parity to the game, the County Cricket Club have chosen to award a bat to the a player from the county pathway. The bat was awarded for a significant contribution during the season.

Jemima won the bat for her contribution to the Under 18 county team this season. her team manager commented that:

'The 2022 County season saw Jemima become a central figure in the Devon 18s Girls successful County season, culminating in the Winning of the Royal London County Cup. Jemima took on a number of key roles, with the bat opening and playing in a mature aggressive fashion finishing the season with 441 runs and 11th leading batter across the country. In addition to this she took 10 championship wickets bowling a series of spells under high pressure and was an central to the standards set by the fielding unit. She embraced all the challenges set during the season and this allowed her game to develop as the season progressed'

'The presentation was a fantastic way to end the season and it was amazing to see so many people coming together to celebrate the women's game' Hannah said, ' We are all really looking forward to the next season'
