THERE was disappointment for Sandford 2nd XI at finals day of the Corinthian Cup where they bowed out in the last four.
Uplyme & Lyme Regis made a respectable 184 for four in their 20 overs with openers Anand Abhishek (33) and Joe Elsworth (60) leading the way with a stand of 116 for the first wicket.
Tyler Wellman (45no) went in first wicket down and batted through to the end of the innings.
Chris Jelley (2-19) , Jack Prescott (1-26) and James Theedom (0-23) all bowled tidily for Sandford.
Shaun Fryett (0-42), who was plagued by wides, and Brian Leach (0-20) proved more costly.
Although Jelley (48) and skipper Shaun Hawkins (27) put bat to ball effectively for Sandford, only Rob Stoyle (12) made double figures after they went.
Sandford were 68 for three at the half way stage and as the asking rate climbed it was clear there could only be one winner.
Steve Batey, the Uplyme captain, bowled four overs for just 13 runs given away and picked up the wicket of top scorer Jelley.
Wellman also gave Sandford very little to get after and Charlie Moss picked up three wickets for only four runs from two overs bowled towards the end of the innings.
Sandford finished 68 runs behind Uplyme on 116 for eight.
Tavistock defeated Stoke Gabriel by 63 runs in the other semi and went on to beat Uplyme by 68 runs in the final to lift the trophy for the first time.
