About

Devon formally launch a Senior Women’s Development Squad in 2016. The aims is to provide a high level of cricket to equip players for the demands & pressures of senior women’s county cricket bridging the gap between league and county age group cricket.

The Development Squad is aimed at helping players gain greater experience and exposure to all competitive formats of the game and they are viewed as an integral part of the Devon Women's team and can be called on to play for the senior side at any time.

Since 2016 the Development Squad has played numerous friendly matches against Cornwall, Yorkshire, Lancashire, Surrey, Hampshire and Wales and for the last two years Devon has sent a Development team to the Womens' Academy Festival held at Wellington College. The team also toured in Cape Town in 2016 and 2018.

With the introduction of the Kia Women’s Cricket Super League and in particular Western Storm and Devon’s exceptionally strong representation at this level there are even more opportunities for players than ever before and it’s important that we can provide a clear pathway for women to play for the county whatever their age.

The Development squad has no upper age limit as Devon is keen to include players of all ages – the aim is for any players who are performing well for either Devon County Age Groups or in the Devon Womens League to be seeking selection to the Development Squad. It’s vital to the success of women's cricket in Devon that there will always be opportunities for players to enter the development squad at any point. There are also some players who are in both the Development Squad and are already playing for Devon Women.
