DEVON Women are on the road again this weekend in the final round of the NatWest T20 competition where they will face Derbyshire & Oxfordshire.

A win over Hertfordshire last weekend means promotion is still very much a possibility, however defeat to table-topping Scotland means Devon must win both games to secure the opportunity to play Division 2 T20 cricket next season.

Derbyshire are Devon’s first opponents, and as they have also lost just the one game, they are Devon’s promotion rivals to secure second spot behind already promoted Scotland.

“This really is a must win game for us” said head coach Trevor Griffin.

“Beating Derbyshire will put us in a very strong position. The young players who stepped up last weekend did well, but not having our first-choice side available really cost us in key moments.

Bullish - Jodie Dibble"We still have our fate in our own hands, but we need to perform; we all desperately want to get out of this division, and I’m expecting that to show on the field with all players putting in strong, match winning performances from the word go.”

Availability is much improved this week with Amara Carr, Cait O’Keefe and Lydia Harries all returning to the side – although Aylish Cranstone will be a loss after sustaining an injury training with Kia Super League side, Surrey Stars. Rosalie Fairbairn is also unavailable this week.

Captain Jodie Dibble is determined to get her side promoted, especially after the frustration of missing out last season

“If we’re honest we weren’t quite on it against Scotland - it took too long for our key players to turn up in what was a tough game.

"We have the chance to put that right and make up for losing out last season, but every player will need to be on it from ball one in the first game, and with promotion at stake I’ve no doubt that will happen.”
